We are frequently asked, "What is an active retreat?"
It's more than just a place to sleep.
The Hungry Ghost Guest House is proud to be a New Paltz, New York active retreat. Being people who subscribe to a lifestyle filled with running, hiking, swimming , biking, kayaking,skiing...the list goes on....we realized there was a void in the lodging community that needed to be addressed. Downhill skiers and snow boarders have ski lodges; how about the rest of us active people?
The Hungry Ghost Guest House offers a location that makes enjoying all these things easy and brings like-minded people together. The rail trail is 1/2 mile east on our cul-de-sac'd road; the Mohonk Preserve is 400 yards west of our driveway; the Village is a 15 minute trail ride by bike. River kayaking is one mile east and hiking begins at the front door. How many places can offer you treadmills, fluid trainers, and indoor housing for your bike if it rains?
We can assist you in figuring it all out based on your activity level and what you enjoy doing. Customized maps, trail maps, and directions are available, as well as the ability to run with the University cross country team if you are so inclined!
Of course, relaxing at the end of the day is an activity in itself and we haven't forgotten that. An indoor wood burning fireplace crackles on cool evenings and if the stars are what you're looking for,the beautiful new patio will help with that. A nap in the hammock or lounge chairs is a must, but only after a good long soak in the hot tub.
Certainly the best amenity in the warmer months is the outdoor shower. (Hot and cold water with changing room)
